Nairobi is the capital city of Kenya. It is a busy town with a high population and many tourist destinations. The Nairobi National Park is the biggest and most famous attraction, located about seven kilometers from the city. Established in 1945, this is the oldest park in the country. The land is covered with wild bush and dense trees, which provide ideal home and adequate food for the wildlife. Wild animals commonly seen are lion, leopard, giraffe, zebra, baboon, wildebeest, cheetah, buffalo, black rhino and the ostrich. This park has an Animal Orphanage where sick animals are treated and taken care of.

Nairobi National Museum is another tourist destination. it is in this museum where you will see the prehistoric artifacts discovered by Leakey. This evidence confirms that Kenya is actually the “Cradle of Mankind”. The floor of this museum contains human footprints implemented from the beginning of civilization. There are also a good collection of fossils displayed in the museum. In addition to this, there are over 900 collection of bird species displayed for visitors to see. Today, there are exhibits displayed about the history and people of Kenya. The government is planning to enlarge the museum and modernize the exhibits.

The Railway Museum reminds people of the past history over a century ago. In this museum, displays of many steam engines and locomotives used during the colonial period along the Kenya-Uganda Railway are still preserved. Karen Brixen Museum is another top destination in Nairobi with rich culture. This was the former home to Karen Brixen who wrote “Out Of Africa”.

The Snake Park is another famous tourist destination. Here, you will have a chance to watch the most poisonous and deadly snakes in grass cages. If you are not afraid of snakes, you can still watch more snakes which are kept in deep pits uncovered. You will also have a chance to see the rare crocodile species that are found nowhere else apart from Africa.

Uhuru Park is a public park situated in the middle of the city. Uhuru is a Swahili word which means freedom and, it is in this park where public rallies and speeches are held. Some monuments to the independence of Kenya are still well-preserved. The park area is covered with green grass and trees which provide shade for good relaxation. However, you should avoid walking in the park alone at night since it is hardly safe. Other tourist destinations in Nairobi include, Kenyatta International Conference Center(KICC), Bomas of Kenya, Jamia Mosque, Parliament House and the National Archives.
