Neon and Light Museum popup in River North showcases art form’s ‘positive vibe,’ curator states

Jason Pickleman remembers shelling out a great number of hrs of his childhood peering into the backyard of his upcoming-door neighbor, an avid artwork collector acknowledged to fill his lavish Hinsdale property with neon lights.

“My teenage bedroom missed a zoo of neon,” says the whole-time artist and graphic designer, now based mostly in Chicago. “It was interesting and illuminating and exotic, and it was every little thing I needed art to be. I recall considering that I wished to fill my lifestyle with colored mild.”

For 30 yrs, he has performed just that.

It is that colored gentle that Pickleman will now have on show at the Neon and Gentle Museum, an immersive popup knowledge containing more than 60 skilled neon and gentle-primarily based sculptures by distinguished artists from throughout the place, all housed inside 7,000 square ft of show area in the coronary heart of River North.

SWANSEA — Head to Stony Creek Farm this Sunday, Aug. 29, for a Touch a Truck, Ice Cream Social and Sunday Market from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Simcock sunflowers and car show

SWANSEA — ‘Tis the season — sunflower season. Head to Simcock Farm to pick your own blossoms from their sunflower field Monday to Friday from 3 to 6 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. 

This Saturday, Aug. 21, the farm will host a car show from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event is free. All cars, trucks, and bikes are invited to take part in the show. Trophies will be awarded five top picks and a best of show, so make sure to register upon arrival.

No Joke Smoke BBQ will be on site for the event, and guests can also get some delicious Simcock Farm ice cream.

Buddy of the Hillsborough River

Bob Luce, a retired laptop programmer who life in Carrollwood, likes to go out on the Hillsborough River in Temple Terrace in his inflatable kayak, where he will take close-up photographs of alligators, captures limpkins and their toddlers on the shore and terrific blue herons in flight.

Which is when he’s not pulling trash out the river. If the weather is reasonable, he goes out twice a week for about 3 hrs at a time. He carries 42-gallon and 18-gallon baggage with him and grabber tools of various lengths. He figures that over 12 decades he’s pulled about 50,000 gallons of trash out of the river.

Luce, 75, talked with the Tampa Bay Situations about the river, litter and how he approaches alligators.

You started out cleaning the Hillsborough River about 2009, you say.

I had begun a handful of years right before that cleansing up Sweetwater Creek.

FALL RIVER — The new Fall River Farmers and Artisans Market (FR FAM) kicks off this Sunday in downtown Fall River.

FR FAM is a bi-weekly event that invites residents and visitors to a fun, family-friendly event where they can support small businesses and SouthCoast entrepreneurs. 

The Fall River Farmers and Artisans will take place every other Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., starting on Sunday, July 11, on Old Second Street. This picturesque cobblestoned pedestrian walkway, located across from the Government Center on Jeremiah V Sullivan Drive, will host a dynamic marketplace

Upcoming Makers Industry event is July 1, featuring art, audio and food stuff on the river stroll in downtown Granite Falls

GRANITE FALLS Audio, art, food and a rolling river are all portion of the scene for the month-to-month Makers Current market coming up Thursday, July 1, in downtown Granite Falls.

The summertime party is held from 5 to 8 p.m. on the initially Thursday of the thirty day period by means of September, on the river walk together the Minnesota River in downtown Granite Falls.

Artists, crafters and makers of handmade jams, jellies and baked items will have their work for sale at the Makers Current market.

“It’s just much more appealing when it’s handmade,” explained Mary Gillespie, a volunteer with the Granite Space Arts Council that is web hosting the event.

A different band performs every single month on the river stroll and totally free artwork lessons will be taught.

At the July party, free of charge music will be offered by the Granite Falls band termed
