Reminiscence movie evaluation: New Hugh Jackman movie is a Christopher Nolan knockoff, sluggish and self-severe | Hollywood
Is Warner Bros so determined to remain in the Christopher Nolan business enterprise that it is willing to greenlight even his close friends and family’s bottom-drawer pitches? The studio has done this just before, when it splurged an unreasonable quantity on the deathly dull Transcendence, directed by Nolan’s longtime cinematographer Wally Pfister. The ominously related-sounding Reminiscence, helmed by Nolan’s sister-in-legislation Lisa Pleasure, also transpires to include head gizmos, but it is not virtually as terrible as that movie.
A hodgepodge of genres and tones, Reminiscence commits the cardinal sin of getting so uninteresting that it fundamentally invites the viewer to fondly remember the older movies that it brazenly rips off. Ironically, this also works as a description of the film’s central premise.
