The Gallery Owner Who Cooled Off

A problem from a reader:

I lately moved to a completely new position and as my lifestyle and my visible input adjusted, so did my operate. I commenced a few of new sequence, which are similar to my preceding get the job done as a result of the matter issue, but the type is very diverse. I have been looking around to see which galleries of the location could exhibit get the job done these kinds of as mine and have been getting ready a new portfolio with my new stuff.

Some months back, a mate who desired to be of support, organized an appointment for me with a gallery operator she knew. I did not want to present my aged do the job, which I had now exhibited a couple situations and quite a few items experienced been sold. However, I now know I was not really all set

Ask a Gallery Owner | Reviving an Old Contact

Bellow is an e-mail I a short while ago been given from an artist. Down below her electronic mail is my reaction, but I would really like to listen to your ideas, especially from past practical experience. Share your feelings in the reviews location beneath.

I firmly feel in revenue on the spot (Revenue Mktg. skilled).  I am pondering how and what would be the best method reviving some aged contacts who have appear to my studio openings and bringing up the subject.  I am embarrassed to appeared like I neglected them for 8 months and lastly I received all over to them.

I am absolutely sure this is typical of us artists who commit so significantly hard work placing alongside one another a present or a competition and then we are deflated by the outcomes sometimes.

I see stick to-ups as fantastic possibilities.

Thank you.

The Obama Portraits – Maniscalco Gallery

I’d like to offer a word or two about the recent presentation of the Obama’s official portraits, for what it’s worth. First, what a class act. There was no mention of the insult leveled by the previous admin for not doing this when he had the chance. I watched the whole proceeding, not one mention of this insult, nor of the former president. It was a class act.

Second, a word about the portraits themselves, which are often a source of controversy. I thought Barack’s portrait hit the mark beautifully. Direct, strong, flaws and all. I also enjoyed the white background, which for me represents the white’s only club he upended by his presidency, and which was unwittingly bruised and unfortunately reawakened by his very being.

I’m very excited to present my portrait of home developer, Stewart Mungo of Mungo Homes. It’s a privilege to continue their portrait tradition, begun by the late great Michael del Priore.

It’s always a little nerve wracking when a portrait is revealed to public, especially when the subject has not signed off on it. But they wanted it to be a surprise. Stewart posed for numerous photos with me so I had the opportunity to know get to him. It was a joy to learn about his work and dedication to Mungo Homes when it needed his guiding hand, his triumph over cancer and the legacy of the company he helped build. Steward is a sailor and loves all things nautical, so I had to include that somehow. There was some conversation about whether to paint him wearing a ties, something

LeCrue Eyebrows First Solo Exhibition at Van Der Plas Gallery

When I very first came on LeCrue Eyebrows‘ artworks on the streets of my metropolis, I was struck at at the time by its singular authenticity. Every single piece intrigues, as it exudes a distinctive aura of secret. Visible meditations on these types of common themes as appreciate, reduction and longing, the functions are subtly potent and strikingly attractive.

Not to be skipped is the Queens-based artist’s very first solo exhibition at Van Der Plas Gallery. At once quietly raw and soulfully tasteful, each and every get the job done tells a story – to be freely interpreted by its viewer.  And every piece was established freely and spontaneously, as practically nothing that Lecrue produces is premeditated. The act of painting, itself, is to the artist “an intensive sort of meditation.”

The beguiling image pictured earlier mentioned, “Move with Me,” was fashioned this 12 months with acrylic on canvas.
