Fun on the farm

SWANSEA — Head to Stony Creek Farm this Sunday, Aug. 29, for a Touch a Truck, Ice Cream Social and Sunday Market from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

A fun event has been planned for all of the truck lovers and ice cream enjoyers. Come touch a truck, buy a delicious sundae and shop the market. 

Check out the petting zoo at Stony Creek Farm in Swansea this Sunday, Aug. 29, during their Touch a Truck, Ice Cream Social and Sunday Market.

See what specialties you can find among the collection of vendors. After you’re done stocking up on fresh and local items from small business owners, you’re welcome to stroll through a free petting zoo. 

The event will be held rain or shine. Bring your mask and your reusable shopping bags and be prepared to stock up on all of the goodness. Children and well-behaved, leashed pets are always welcome on the farm.

Back to School Block Party

FALL RIVER — A Back to School Block Party is coming to Kennedy Park.

Mayor Paul Coogan and United Way of Greater Fall River, Inc. will host an end-of-summer celebration at the city park on Saturday, Aug. 28, from noon to 4 p.m. The event will feature backpack giveaways, food trucks, and music and entertainment for the family.

You can also come cheer on participants in the Fall River Basketball Association and Fall River Youth Cornhole Tournament championships.

St. Anthony of the Desert in Fall River will hold a mahrajan, a traditional Lebanese festival, in August.

Mahrajan Food Festival returns

FALL RIVER — St. Anthony of the Desert Maronite Catholic Church, 300 North Eastern Ave., is hosting a three-day Mahrajan Food Festival this month.

The event will be held rain or shine Aug. 27-29 on the newly renovated church grounds. It will feature authentic Lebanese food and pastries, live entertainment, alcoholic beverages, a children activity area and hookah.

The festival schedule is as follows: 

Friday, Aug. 27, from 5 to 11 p.m.

Saturday, Aug. 28, from noon to 11 p.m.

Sunday, Aug. 29, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Kids Art Week

WESTPORT — Westport is hosting a Kids Art Week, kicking off Monday, Aug. 23. A professional art instructor will help kids explore various art materials to make really cool projects. Creativity, imagination and having fun with art is what it’s all about. 

The program, led by Lan Quan, is geared toward children ages 5-12. It will be held Monday, Aug. 23, to Thursday, Aug. 26, from 9 a.m.to noon. All supplies are included; see below for the different projects/themes they will do:

Westport will host a Kids Art Week, kicking off Monday, Aug. 23, 2021.

Monday, Aug. 23 – Paint with Nature

Kids will explore colors of nature, do some light play then venture into using natural elements to create a variety of art pieces: using flora to make imprints, rocks to create pigments, painting with sticks, painting on birch wood. Together we will explore ways to appreciate nature.

Tuesday, Aug. 24 – Making a Special Book

Make a take home book or journal that will be created using painting, lettering, memory prompts, etc. A great place to save small mementos.

Wednesday, Aug. 25 – Nature Mobile and Found Sculptures

Using both found natural objects and recycled household items we will create a nature mobile as will as a 3D Natural Sculpture. 

Thursday, Aug. 26 – Bird Houses, Hummingbird Nests and Yard Art

We will paint, play and create fun objects to bring art and nature into the yard while learning about local birds, hummingbirds and bees.
