Hub on Canal
The Hub on Canal offers exhibits and workshops at 132 and 120 Canal St. in New Smyrna Beach.
First Saturday at The Hub on Canal will be July 3.
•Gallery opening receptions will be from 4 to 7 p.m.
•July exhibit opening in the Founders Gallery will be “Sprezzatura: Studied Carelessness,” the fifth annual members exhibit. Hub members interpreted the word sprezzatura, a noun of Italian origin that means “studied carelessness, especially as a characteristic, quality or style of art or literature.” The exhibit will be open to Aug.1.
•July exhibit opening in the Fine Art Photography Gallery will be “Through The Lens: Landscapes, Seascapes and Wildlife,” photography by Dave Bowers and Lori Vetter Bowers. Mr. and Ms. Bowers embrace their fundamental darkroom roots, but have grown to employ modern “digital darkroom” technology. Exhibit will be on display to Aug. 29. Also, the Bowers will lead an informal Artist Talk at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 8.
•Art Connections will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The inside look at the work of more than 60 local artists provides an opportunity to talk to them and learn their process.
•Live music will be from 4 to 7 p.m. with James Hall in the lobby.
•Talk Art! Drawing with an X-Acto Knife, an informal demo and conversation with Hub artist Betty Parker, will be from 1 to 2 p.m.
All 1st Saturday events are free and open to the public.
New workshop Painting with Morris Wiener will meet 10 a.m. to noon Monday, July 5. Students will learn the basics of oil painting and leave the workshop with their own creation. No mineral spirits will be used. The fee is $50 for members and $60 for non-members.
The beginner Italian class with Bettina McLaughlan will meet from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays for eight weeks, starting July 6. Advanced class will meet from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Fridays for eight weeks, starting July 9. The fee is $96 for eight-week beginner class and $120 for eight-week advanced class. Required book: “Italian in 10 Minutes a Day” by Kristine Kershul. All editions are acceptable. Book is available to buy online.
Art in the Form of Film with Paul Marino will meet from 5:45 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 16. The film will be “High Anxiety” (1977), a spoof of Alfred Hitchcock films by Mel Brooks. Mr. Marino will introduce the film, raise questions to ponder and host a post-viewing discussion. The fee is $7, which includes glass of wine or bottle of water.

Jane’s Art Center
“LAYERS” by Beaux Arts of Central Florida will be on display July 1-31 at Jane’s Art Center, 199 Downing St., New Smyrna Beach.
An opening reception will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, July 3.
The concept of layers is reflected in the works of this exhibition through artists’ use of multiple levels of meaning and of the layering of materials, textures, colors, and forms.

The Museum of Arts & Sciences offers events and exhibits at 352 S. Nova Road, Daytona Beach.
Eyes in the Sky: The World of Aerial Drones Tour by Eduardo Morillo, an Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University graduate student, will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 7. Mr. Morillo will walk participants through the exhibit to discuss the cutting-edge research he is involved with on UAV technology.
ERAU’s Dr. John Robbins will lead a tour of the exhibit from 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 14.
A virtual museum members-only coffee will be from 11 a.m. to noon Thursday, July 8, with Senior Curator of Education and History Zach Zacharias providing a Zoom tour of Florida’s history from the Gilded Age to the 1950s through vintage postcards. The event is free for members.
Florida Vistas Book Club will host a virtual meeting to discuss “Hitler’s Soldiers in the Sunshine State” from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, July 15. Robert D. Billinger Jr., will tell the story of the 10,000 men who were “guests” of Uncle Sam in Florida. Admission is free for members, $5 for non- members.
Afternoon with Florida History will meet from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, July 17. The topics will be Florida’s Patriot War: The Other War of 1812 with Historian Brian Polk and Small Town Central Florida with Mr. Zacharias. Admission is free for members, $7 for non- members, or included with paid museum admission.
Lunch and Learn: Curator’s Choice with Landscape Painter Arnold Desmarais will be from noon to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 21, Mr. Desmarais and Mr. Zacharias will be at the Cici and Hyatt Brown Museum of Art to talk about the masterwork pieces in the collection. Space is limited and advanced reservation is required. Lecture is free plus the price of paid lunch for museum members. Lecture is $5 plus the price of paid lunch for non-members.
MOAS After Hours: In Partnership with The Locals Mix | Planetarium Night will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, July 26. There will be exclusive after-hour access to all galleries, happy hour drink specials and live music by Nealey Gail and DJ Jukebox Bully in partnership with The Locals Mix.
Guests can attend the 5:30 p.m. show, “The Sky Tonight,” with MOAS Curator of Astronomy Seth Mayo and/or at 6:30 p.m. one of the museum’s most popular laser night concerts, Laser Vinyl. Admission is free for members, $5 for non- members.

Poetry open mike
An open mike event, sponsored by Creative Happiness Institute, will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 11, at Main Street Station, 316 Main St., Daytona Beach.
Main Street Station is offering performers a free, covered stage and free parking to host an afternoon open mike event.
Rain or shine, the reading will be from 2 to 4 p.m. All poetry styles welcome as well as songs and music.
The event is free and open to the public with parking around and at the back lot of the property.

Ormond Memorial Art Museum & Gardens
The Ormond Beach Performing Arts Center will display works curated by Ormond Memorial Art Musuem.
Artwork was inspired by different aspects of the pandemic. The first exhibit will be work by Ormond Beach artists in the themes Overcoming the “Challenge, Bringing the Arts Back and Renewal” from June 16 to Aug. 13 at 399 N. U.S. 1.
The museum is looking for artists to participate in a second exhibit Aug. 18 to Oct. 15. Submission deadline is July 26. Participants are asked to submit two-dimensional artwork that touches on “Being Present — What you can gain in a moment,” “Unity, Community, Synergy” and “Sharing Space.”

IMAGES: A Festival of the Arts
Atlantic Center for the Arts is accepting applications for the 46th annual IMAGES: A Festival of the Arts, which will be Jan. 28-30 in New Smyrna Beach.
The event attracts more than 48,000 arts enthusiasts and has a patrons programs in the Southeast with 240 members who spend more than $200,000 yearly on arts purchases at the festival. Also, $28,300 in prize money is awarded.

Morning art camps
Ormond Memorial Art Museum & Gardens is hosting Imagination Vacation day camps.
The three-hour summer art camps are for children ages 7 to 11. Each session meets between 9 a.m. to noon July 7, 15, 20 and 27 with drop-off and pick-up at St. James Episcopal Church, 38 S. Halifax Drive, Ormond Beach.

Gateway Center for the Arts
Pottery classes for adults will meet from noon to 2 p.m. each Wednesday at Gateway Center for the Arts at 880 N. U.S. 17/92, DeBary.

Museum of Art-DeLand
The Museum of Art-DeLand will present “Adam Straus: Out of Paradise” until Sept. 12 in the galleries at 100 N. Woodland Blvd., DeLand.
Mr. Straus started his artistic career as a photographer and sculptor in the late ’70s and early ’80s. He began making small paintings in 1986 of nocturnal landscapes inspired by his surroundings in north Florida.
